Update 3/21/25 ran the purifier in the garage with this filter for over 20 hours and the smell is gone. After further research it appears that this is kind of normal for other brand filters as well. I must have been lucky in the past, either that or they are doing something different now. Either way the filter is “normal” for this product. This used to get 5 stars but as of my last purchase it gets only 2. I have owned this purifier for 5 years and have been buying these filters. Last filter I purchased 2/2025 had an odor so I sent it back and purchased one directly from germguardian website. That one came and also had an odor (like oil or rubber). I contacted germguardian who told me that they have to be broken in and to run it in a room with a cracked window. This is unacceptable to me for an air purifier filter, especially one that cost as much as this one does.
