SMGO-1366 Blood chit Grouping for B-25 Pilot of the China Burma Theater w/68 Missions $2,300.00 1 in stock Add to cart Description An interesting grouping that should provide some additional research potential for those with the resources. The bulk of what we know about the man (George Alva Loney) comes from two newspaper clippings for the local small town of Byesville Ohio. According to them, he was a B-25 pilot with 68 missions and 300 combat flying hours. His promotion document included dates him being promoted to First Lieutenant in 1946. When his missions were is unclear. The post cards dated to his daughter are from the late ’50’s and early 60’s and I found him listed as a transport pilot during this time in a USAAF database of pilots. There was another database of plane accidents i found and he was listed as a transport pilot in a 1958 accident. An ancestry.com link showed a gravestone that listed this exact name being involved in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. It also mentioned him being a Lt Colonel. So, there is more to learn about this man clearly. As for the grouping, you get the leather blood chit which looks like a spare he never attached to his jacket or kept folded in the plane. You get his promotional document, Multiple patches including name plates off his jackets, 3 large and rare 58th Fighter Squadron patches which appear to be a gold version of the 1951 approved pattern. These must have been given to him by other pilots who flew with him in Burma since the 58th also flew in Burma during the WW2 time that Lt. Loney was doing combat runs and the 58th was likely an escort unit. Thats my guess anyway. The patches themselves are an interesting research subject and might even be WW2 era since they seem to have had multiple patch designs and variations. You also get 4 China-Burma-India Theatre Patches. Two are typical cut edge WW2 style and the other two are a multipiece fabric with a khaki backing that is open at the top which forms a pocket. You get a bunch of postcards that are to his daughter and from his wife that are dated late 50’s and early 60’s. A really neat grouping with further research potential!
